I, for one, no longer believe anything that Tom Ridge has to say. I listened to his Chicken Little act on tv this afternoon. He was very unconvincing, I thought. He had "multiple sources of intelligence" or something like that. No real specifics.
Here's what I think is going to happen, tomorrow or in the next few days while this super-alert is on. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Of course, by the end of the week the Bushies will be flooding the news programs with stories about how "...President Bush took decisive action and saved NY and DC from a terrible tragedy...etc. etc." The whole enchilada is just an attempt to take the spotlight off John Kerry. The timing of the scare announcement alone should tell us that.
I wonder how long they think that people will continue to be impressed by these false alarms. Still, they do work to a certain extent. How many people remember the schools teaching kids to crawl under their desks if they heard THE ALARM? Everyone knew that crawling under the desk would be about as effective as closing your eyes and crossing your fingers, but it did help to maintain a heightened level of cold war hysteria.
So, if I was an employee working in one of the building that were named I'd take tomorrow off and go to the beach or someplace. An employer would hardly dare fire anyone who reacted normally to Ridge's warning. That would be unpatriotic!!
